DrAntigonos Sochos

My research has developed in two strands – one focusing on the quality of attachment relationships and its link with developmental adversity and psychological distress and one exploring the nature of collective bonds. My main theoretical focus is on attachment research and the integration of psychodynamic and social psychological approaches, while my empirical work involves vulnerable populations (e.g. homeless individuals, immigrants and refugees, bereaved and institutionalised children) as well as communities undergoing trauma. 

I am particularly interested in social environments permeated by disorganisation and the breakdown of social networks. I explore ways in which psychological notions of relatedness, primarily as developed within the framework of attachment theory, may reach beyond interpersonal relationships and individual regulation and inform our understanding of group and organisational processes as well as the establishment of social institutions. I have been primary and co-investigator in a number of community-based research projects (total funding £1.6m). I supervise doctoral and other postgraduate students working in related areas.
