RESEARCH INTERESTS
I am currently undertaking PhD research into 'What physical, mental and emotional stresses and strains are BSL/English Interpreters subjected to through the specific nature of their role, and how does this affect the longevity of their careers?'
My research sub-questions are:
What aspects of the role of a BSL/English interpreter impact their emotional and mental well-being? (a personal lack of identity, perceived negative criticism, vicarious trauma and maladaptive perfectionist traits)
How do interpreters' motivations and personality types affect the longevity of BSL/English interpreters’ careers?
What resources and support structures are available to interpreters, and what coping strategies can they employ to assist them in their careers?
