RESEARCH INTERESTS
My current research involves investigating cellular and molecular pathophysiological mechanisms in respiratory disease, such as COPD and fibrosis. In particular I have a special interest in the impact of oxidative & carbonyl stress on cell function, inflammation & immunity. It utilises a multidisciplinary approach drawing on molecular, pharmacological and proteomic techniques, in order to translate clinical observations into mechanisms of disease pathogenesis.
Current research projects include:
- The impact of carbonyl stress & DAMPs on macrophage plasticity and iis implications in the pathophysiology of COPD.
- The impact of carbonyl stress and a novel comorbidity factor in the predisposition to cardiovascular disease in COPD.
- Evaluating a novel therapeutic approach to prevent fibrosis through restoration of mitochondrial dysfunction.
- Investigating the linkage bewteen carbonyl stress, Compliment factor H and HLA to autoimmune mediated lung destruction.
