I started my academic journey at the University of Wolverhampton in 2004 on the BSL/ ENG interpreting degree. After completing my

degree in 2008 I worked for a Deaf media company for 5 years as an in-house interpreter. I then decided to start my

freelance career and have been freelance running my company Toucan Languages ever since.  

Just before the Covid lockdown I set up a second company Sign Connect using funding from the Prince's Trust. I went on to be the regional and National winner for the Prince's Trust award for Innovation. Whilst Toucan Languages focuses on sign language interpretation, Sign

Connect focuses on accessible video creation, subtitles,  QR codes and accessibility training. 

I was part of the first cohort on the Interpreting Masters degree as a student  and I become co-lecturer for two of the modules starting January 20025

My PhD focuses on Institutional Ethnography and I am looking at whether or not these institutional ruling relations and organisational paperwork, leave Deaf patients with more work to do in order to access healthcare under the NHS. I specifically look at Deaf people's experience, reasonable adjustment, Accessible Information Standards and the commissioning framework.
