RESEARCH INTERESTS

A) Obstetric epidemiology
B) Anaemia in pregnancy:
1) all aspects of the management of iron deficiency anaemia, diagnosis, investigation and treatment.
2) investigating the use of biomarkers to improve the diagnosis of IDA in pregnancy and predict response to treatment
3) Investigating approaches and methodologies to optimise and improve treatment
4) investigating the mechanisms through which IDA in pregnancy is associated with serious adverse obstetric outcomes, stillbirth, perinatal mortality and maternal morbidity and mortality.
5) Lead obstetrician and co-investigator on the PANDA programme funded by the NIHR to investigate approaches to prevent IDA in pregnancy and reduce low birth weight and preterm birth.

C) Diabetes in pregnancy
1) Investigating the use of maternal and fetal data to stratify women with gestational diabetes into risk groups and rationalise their treatment.
2) Chief investigator for a national study into the management of diabetes ketoacidosis in pregnancy.

D) Ethnicity adverse outcome and the provision of medical services.
