DrJake Hinks

Dr Jake Hinks is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Wolverhampton and a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA). He teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes, with particular responsibility for Constitutional and Administrative Law, EU Law, and legal skills education.

His academic work spans both constitutional law and legal education. His constitutional scholarship focuses on executive dominance within the UK constitution, examining its impact on parliamentary sovereignty, constitutional change, and democratic accountability. He completed his PhD at Aston University in 2021, having been awarded a Dean's Scholarship to support his doctoral research. His thesis, Executive Dominance and the British Constitution, explored the rise and implications of executive dominance within the UK constitutional order.

Alongside his doctrinal research, Jake has developed a growing profile in higher education pedagogy, particularly in the fields of inclusive assessment, student success, belonging, and educational equity. He has led innovative assessment initiatives that have informed institutional policy and wider university pilot programmes, contributing to evidence-informed approaches to improving attainment and reducing structural inequalities in higher education.

In 2024, Jake secured funding through the University's Early Researcher Award Scheme to undertake research exploring student perspectives on inclusivity within legal education. He has presented both his constitutional law and pedagogic research at national and international conferences.

Jake is also a Coordinator of the West Midlands Legal Doctoral Network.
