BIO

Senior Lecturer and Subject Lead for Secondary Humanities

Secondary Education Employability Lead

Secondary Education ITaP Lead: Behaviour

I joined the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing within the Secondary Education Initial Teacher Training department at the University of Wolverhampton in September 2020. It is fantastic to be able to work for an institution that strives for the absolute best for its students and staff. Prior to working in Higher Education, I have been a teacher for over 20 years. Education, with a strong focus on academic rigour, plus high levels of pastoral support, drives me to be the best I can be in my role.

Having taught humanities in a secondary school for 22 years prior to joining the University of Wolverhampton, my areas of expertise lie in progress, development and support for young people. My roles within education have been gloriously varied including Head of Department, Head of Year and Assistant Headteacher. I was also a staff governor for a number of years. These roles have allowed me to experience not only my subject specialism, but to have an overview of the wider requirements for teachers. I am delighted to be able to share this experience with training teachers.

I am delighted to be the Secondary Education Employability Lead, as I believe that this role is crucial for enabling our trainees to make informed decisions about their next steps. Through this role, I have helped to establish strong partnerships with senior leaders from a wide variety of secondary education institutions across the region. As ITaP lead for Behaviour, I have enjoyed seeing the impact on the trainees and their pupils of the theoretical and practical implementation of the ITaP focus.

I have been fortunate in my career to have carried out a number of roles within education. Much of what I have achieved is down to the support from colleagues and from my wonderful family. Spending time with family and friends is really important to me. I enjoy the simple things in life, walking with the family and my two gorgeous Golden Retrievers, eating delicious food and meeting friends to share our latest news. I also love visiting National Trust and English Heritage sites.
