Addisalem B. Abebe is a third-year PhD student at the Business School of Wolverhampton University and holds an MA degree in HRM with a distinction. Her research is on the journey of Ethiopian migrants to the UK through migrant smuggling practice. Her choice to do research in the migration field emerges from Her Christian faith and belief that despite the enormous challenges the world is passing through, human lives matter the most and the quality of one life depends on the positive impact the person made on others. Currently, she lives in Birmingham with her husband and four kids. In addition to her PhD, She is an approved VL at the business department of Wolverhampton University through her expertise in human resource management and leadership courses.  Her professional goal is to contribute to the betterment of society through the expansion of her research work on the practice of migrant smuggling and pursue a career in teaching in the higher education sector.  

I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Community Research and Development at the University of Wolverhampton. I am the lead researcher on a QR-funded project titled Who repairs what and why? Community labour after the riots. This research explores how communities, local organisations, and grassroots groups interpret and respond to the social unrest that took place across England in summer 2024, using an in-depth case study approach. It examines how these events are narrated and understood by different actors, and how practices of repair are negotiated in their aftermath through ethnographic research and qualitative interviews.

Prior to this, my research explored the emotional politics of fossil fuel transition, with a particular focus on coal and industrial populism in Central and Eastern Europe. For my PhD, I conducted year-long ethnographic fieldwork with a coal mining community in Upper Silesia, Poland, examining how the changing meanings and materialities of coal are being renegotiated amid postcolonial, post-socialist, and climate-driven transformations, and how these processes intersect with growing support for far-right political narratives and worldviews from below.

In addition to my role at Wolverhampton, I am also an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Geography at UCL, where I teach on the MSc Environment, Politics and Society programme.

Change lies at the heart of Euripides Altintzoglou's artistic practice, serving as both a subject and a force that continually reshapes the world we inhabit. Euripides delves beyond the visible expressions of political discourse, exploring the nuanced and often unacknowledged gestures of resistance and resilience that permeate everyday life.

In a world increasingly defined by division and discord, his work positions art as a powerful tool for fostering understanding and bridging divides. Through objects, videos, images, and installations, Euripides harnesses the iconic and transformative potential of imagery, using it as a catalyst to provoke reflection and engage with the pressing concerns of our time.

His work has been exhibited internationally in both private and public galleries, as well as in major international exhibitions. Noteworthy theoretical contributions include his monograph Portraiture and Critical Reflections on Being (Routledge, New York, 2018) and the co-edited essay collection Revolt and Revolution: The Protester in the 21st Century (with Martin Fredriksson, Inter-Disciplinary Press, Oxford, 2016).

Short Biography

Prof Dr Arun Arjunan is the Professor and Chair of Additive Manufacturing and Director of the Centre for Engineering Innovation and Research (CEIR) at the University of Wolverhampton. He led major national initiatives including the £11.6 million Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills (ECMS) and the £20 million National Centre for Green Electric Materials Manufacturing (GEMM), helping to shape the future of sustainable and high-value manufacturing in the UK.

The University of Wolverhampton was the first UK university to pioneer Laser-Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) Additive Manufacturing through its collaboration with EOS in 1999, a programme now in its 26th year under the leadership of Prof Arun Arjunan. Building on early breakthroughs in processing titanium, steel, aluminium and cobalt–chromium, his Additive Manufacturing Group now advances high thermal gradient materials, developing novel alloys, metalloids, cermets, semiconductors and metamaterials.

By pushing Additive Manufacturing beyond conventional limits by printing of highly reflective and traditionally hard-to-process systems such as copper, copper-silver and diamond-copper Prof Arjunan’s Group has positioned Wolverhampton at the forefront of next-generation additive manufacturing of semiconductors and microelectronic devices. In 2024, Prof Arjunan also established the Centre of Excellence for Shaped Laser Additive Manufacturing at the University of Wolverhampton in collaboration with EOS and AMCM, which is the first institute dedicated to exploring beam shaping technologies. Alongside these experimental advances, he has made significant theoretical contributions through the Herschel-Quincke-Arjunan (HQA) model and the Robinson-Arjunan (RA) scaling law providing a predictive framework for self-organised porous metamaterial lattices in LPBF by linking thin-film instability physics with melt-pool kinetics to accurately describe sub-micron length scales in advanced systems such as copper-diamond composites.

He was appointed to the ‘AMT/8 Additive Manufacturing’ BSI standards development committee in 2020, contributing to ISO standards that support UK and international additive manufacturing industries. His contributions have been widely recognised and has been ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists for five consecutive years (2021-2025). His awards include the GKN Award (2011), the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Research (2020), the UK Engineering Innovation Award (2021), the Emerald Literati Award (2022), and the Research Impact Award (2024). He was also nominated for the Blavatnik Awards in the United Kingdom and was a finalist in The Engineer UK Collaborate to Innovate Awards for 3D-printing smart swabs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through research, standards leadership, and skills development, Professor Arjunan is helping to position additive manufacturing as a reliable, scalable and sustainable technology to democratise compound semiconductor, on-chip heat exchangers and micro-electronic manufacturing for the industries of the future.

Dr. Nadia Asghar is a dedicated academic and practitioner currently serving as a faculty member in the Department of Finance, Accounting, and Economics at the University of Wolverhampton, where she has been affiliated since 2018. With nearly two decades of experience spanning UK and international higher education institutions, she combines scholarly rigor with extensive professional expertise gained through roles in both local and multinational corporate environments.

Her research and teaching specializations lie at the intersection of Empirical Finance, Corporate Finance, and Behavioural Finance, through which she delivers innovative instruction across undergraduate, postgraduate, and apprenticeship programmes. Dr. Asghar’s pedagogical approach is anchored in demystifying the complexities of financial markets and institutions, emphasizing dynamic market trends, theoretical applications, and the cultivation of analytical skills essential for contemporary finance professionals.

Committed to advancing academic excellence, she fosters intellectually stimulating environments that prioritize critical inquiry, collaborative learning, and the integration of empirical research with practical industry insights. By bridging theoretical frameworks with real-world challenges, Dr. Asghar equips students with adaptable competencies to thrive in evolving global financial landscapes, while maintaining an active engagement with cutting-edge scholarship and pedagogical innovation.

My first degree was in Applied Biological Sciences, followed by a PhD in Botany at the University of Reading. During my PhD, I developed an interest in the role of the plant cell wall in plant growth and development. Upon completion of my PhD, I was appointed as a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Cell Biology at the John Innes Centre, Norwich. During my time at Norwich, I performed research on the biochemistry, molecular structure and molecular biology of arabinogalactan-proteins. At this time I also developed a research interest in plant gum exudates used in the food industry (i.e. gum Arabic). Subsequent to which, I took up a temporary post as a University Lecturer in the Botany Department at Universiti Sains Malaysia where I taught Botany and Biotechnology and continued my research on aspects of plant cell wall biology. In 1999 I returned to the U.K. and was appointed as a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge. At Cambridge, I carried out research on nucleotide sugar transporters involved in plant cell wall biosynthesis in the model species Arabidopsis thaliana. In 2001 I joined the academic staff here at the University of Wolverhampton, as a Senior Lecturer in Plant Sciences and was appointed to my current post as Reader in Plant Cell Biology in 2013. During my time at Wolverhampton, I have continued my research on the structure and function of the plant cell wall in a number of developmental processes and have broadened my research in to a variety of aspects of plant biology and agriculture.

I have been a full-time BSL/English sign language interpreter since 2001 and love working with the Deaf and hearing communities.

I feel very privileged to be an interpreter and love the challenges and experiences I get from my job :-)

I am a part II architecture graduate. Architecture, for me, is a mission to change and improve the quality of people’s lives through good-quality design. I have worked with local councils on several projects during the time spent on education and practice. Over the years, I have developed a keen eye for design and am well-versed in the technical aspects of architecture. I am especially passionate about the social aspect of the discipline with a particular interest in, residential, urban design, commercial, master planning and mixed-use. I am keen and willing to learn about other sectors and develop new skills. I am currently seeking new opportunities within the construction industry, with my long-term goal to pursue a career as an architect

Dr Pete Bennett is Senior Lecturer in Post Compulsory Education at the University of Wolverhampton, where he runs a top-up degree and jointly leads the MA in Professional Practice and Lifelong Education. He writes textbooks and is involved as writer and editor in the fields of media, education and culture including Barthes’ Mythologies Today: Readings of Contemporary Culture (Routledge 2013), Doing Text: Media after the Subject (2016) and Identity and Resistance in Further Education (2018). He is co- editor of the new Routledge Research in Media Education and Literacy research series (with Julian McDougall).
