BIO

Manpreet Singh is a Knowledge Exchange Associate at the University of Wolverhampton, specialising in knowledge exchange and CPD course development to support industry and workforce upskilling. He leads the Career Progress Development (CPD) programme, delivering training in CAD, Ansys, and Additive Manufacturing, equipping professionals with cutting-edge skills. Through his role, he actively collaborates with SMEs and industry partners, providing technical expertise and consultancy to help businesses integrate advanced engineering technologies and drive innovation.

 

With a PhD in Engineering and a master’s in manufacturing engineering, Dr Singh has extensive expertise in additive manufacturing (AM), materials characterisation, and mechanical testing. His research focuses on laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technology and the development of advanced metamaterials, including AlSi10Mg auxetic lattice structures and CoCrMo meta-scaffolds, addressing key challenges in structural integrity, load-bearing capacity, and energy absorption.

 

Dr Singh has contributed significantly to Innovate UK-funded projects, leveraging his expertise in manufacturing processes and materials testing to develop industry-driven solutions. His background as a mechanical design engineer has strengthened his leadership and project management skills, enabling him to drive multidisciplinary collaborations.

 

A prolific researcher and author, Dr Singh actively publishes in leading scientific journals, demonstrating a strong commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry. His work in knowledge exchange, CPD training, and applied research continues to advance next-generation materials and manufacturing processes, supporting industrial innovation and workforce development.

    In the Enviro-Surface project, funded by an Innovative UK grant, I worked as a dedicated Research Associate, playing a pivotal part in the development of an innovative solution targeted at addressing global Urban Heat Island (UHI) challenges. Under the leadership of SJH (Group) and with support from the University of Wolverhampton, our collaborative efforts were focused on creating an innovative reflective paving surface to efficaciously mitigate heat pollution. This involved pioneering the utilization of polyurethane resin alongside 100% recycled aggregate, plastic, and rubber. In a departure from traditional grey infrastructure solutions like permeable and energy-harvesting surfaces, our primary emphasis was on engineering paving with a significantly elevated albedo index relative to standard asphalt pavement. This distinctive approach yielded a reflective surface that absorbs less solar energy, thereby contributing substantially to the reduction of heat pollution.Postdoctoral ResearchSupervised by Arjunan A
