ASSOCIATE PROFESSORRoss Cloak

I am an Associate Professor of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Wolverhampton, where I combine academic leadership with applied sport science to bridge the gap between research and practice. My passion is translating evidence into real world impact, helping athletes, organisations and practitioners improve performance, health and wellbeing through research, innovation and knowledge exchange.
 
As Laboratory Director and a member of the School Senior Leadership Team, I provide strategic leadership for research, laboratory development, knowledge exchange and external partnerships. I also lead the School's Knowledge Exchange strategy, developing collaborations that generate societal, economic and sporting impact while creating opportunities for students, researchers and industry partners.
 
My research focuses on exercise physiology, athlete monitoring, performance optimisation and interdisciplinary sport science, with extensive experience working across professional football, combat sports and endurance sport. I currently serve as Consultant Physiologist to GB Judo, supporting athlete preparation towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, while continuing to work with elite athletes, coaches and governing bodies to apply sports science in high-performance environments.
 
Alongside my University role, I am committed to advancing the sport and exercise science profession nationally. I serve as Deputy Chair of the Sport and Performance Division for the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES), helping shape professional standards, continuing professional development, and strategic initiatives that support practitioners across the UK. I also sit on the UK Sport Elite Training Centre (ETC) Steering Group, contributing to the development of world-class training environments that underpin Britain's Olympic and Paralympic success.
 
I am proud to be recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a Fellow of the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education (NCEE), reflecting my commitment to educational leadership, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking within higher education.
