DrArafatur Rahman

Professor Md Arafatur Rahman is an internationally recognised and award-winning researcher, academic leader, and innovator specialising in Cybersecurity, Communication Networks, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), 5G/6G, and Vehicular Technologies. With over 15 years of experience in higher education, research, and industry collaboration, he has established a strong international reputation for delivering impactful research, leading multidisciplinary projects, and developing innovative technologies that address real-world challenges.

Currently serving as Professor of Cybersecurity and Communication Networks at the University of Wolverhampton, UK, Professor Rahman has previously held academic and research positions at Universiti Malaysia Pahang, University of Naples Federico II (Italy), and Sapienza University of Rome (Italy). His work bridges academia, industry, and government, focusing on secure and intelligent communication systems for future digital societies.

His research interests span Cybersecurity, AI, IoT, Cyber-Physical Systems, Digital Twins, Edge/Fog/Cloud Computing, 5G/6G Networks, Vehicular Communications, Space Cybersecurity, Federated Learning, and Intelligent Transportation Systems. He has successfully secured and contributed to numerous national and international research projects, attracting more than £650,000 in UK research funding, while participating in major collaborative programmes funded by the European Union, Italy, Malaysia, and the UK.

Professor Rahman is the Founder and Director of CyberVehiCare, an international research consortium advancing secure, intelligent, and AI-enabled Cyber-Physical Vehicle Health Monitoring Systems through global collaboration between academia and industry. He also serves as a leading advisor to Research Innovation Technology Solution (RITECHS) Ltd, supporting researchers, postgraduate students, and industrial partners worldwide.

An experienced research supervisor and academic leader, Professor Rahman has successfully supervised multiple PhD and MPhil graduates and continues to mentor doctoral researchers across several countries. He currently leads the BSc Cybersecurity programme at the University of Wolverhampton and has extensive experience in programme development, curriculum design, quality assurance, and international academic partnerships.

His scholarly contributions include approximately 200 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions, IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society, IEEE Access, Elsevier Future Generation Computer Systems, and Vehicular Communications. His research has received over 3,800 citations, with an h-index of 29, and he has been recognised in Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists List (2019–2024), including the Whole Career Impact category.

Professor Rahman's research excellence has been recognised through more than 50 international awards, including the IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Homeland Security Research and Innovation Award, the Elsevier Best Survey Paper Award, international innovation awards from Germany, Poland, Malaysia, and the UK, and numerous best paper awards. His work has also resulted in the successful commercialisation of technologies including a 5G Router, Smart Lighting Systems, and intelligent digital solutions for industry.

Beyond research, he actively contributes to the global scientific community as Specialty Chief Editor of Frontiers in IoT, Associate Editor of IEEE Access, Editorial Board Member of several international journals, General Chair and Founder of international Springer conference series including ICETCS, ITSS-IoE, and ETCCE, and as a keynote speaker at leading international conferences.

Professor Rahman is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and has been endorsed by the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK) under the Global Talent – Exceptional Talent route. His vision is to develop secure, intelligent, and trustworthy digital technologies that create meaningful societal, industrial, and economic impact through world-leading research, innovation, and international collaboration.
