DrA Meltem Budak

I have extensive experience in higher education teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, with a particular focus on psychology, counselling psychology, mental health, psychological assessment, therapeutic practice, and evidence-based psychological interventions. My teaching is informed by my academic background, clinical practice, research experience, and professional engagement, enabling me to integrate theoretical knowledge with contemporary clinical and applied practice.

My teaching experience includes the delivery and development of teaching across undergraduate and postgrauate programmes, as well as supervision of Master's dissertations and Doctoral research projects. I support students in developing critical thinking, academic and research skills, clinical reasoning, reflective practice, and the ability to apply psychological theory and evidence to complex real-world situations.

My approach to teaching is student-centred, inclusive, research-informed, and practice-oriented. I aim to create learning environments that encourage curiosity, critical reflection, professional development, and the integration of theory with practice. My clinical experience as a Principal Psychologist particularly informs my teaching in areas relating to mental health, psychological formulation, assessment, therapeutic interventions, trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation, and evidence-based practice.

I have also contributed to curriculum development, dissertation supervision, research supervision, assessment, and academic mentoring, supporting students at different stages of their academic and professional development. I am particularly interested in developing students' ability to critically evaluate psychological evidence and translate research into effective practice.

My teaching interests include clinical and counselling psychology, mental health and wellbeing, psychological assessment, therapeutic approaches including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed practice, attachment, neurodiversity, emotional regulation, perinatal mental health, and evidence-based psychological interventions.
